Hot Air Balloon Bowl
Gio Ponti
In the Mongolfiere bowl, the theme of flight gives rise to a dreamy and playful depiction, made particularly precious by the gold details and the shaded segment decoration on the interior. On the outer surface, a stormy sky is painted with coloured clouds and balloons moved by the wind.
Exhibited by Richard-Ginori at the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Monza, the bowl remained in production at least until 1928, a date indicated on the mark, which in this case refers to the production of the blank object. The hot air balloon motif was later reintroduced by Ponti in a simpler version titled Celesio, to make it more accessible to a wider audience (inv. 3192).
