Eight sculptures from the collections of the Museo Ginori are the protagonists of the exhibition “Giovan Battista Foggini. Architetto e scultore granducale,” at Palazzo Medici Riccardi, Florence, from April 10 to September 9, 2025.

Organized on the occasion of the third centenary of the artist’s death, the exhibition celebrates the creative genius of Giovan Battista Foggini (1652-1725) by retracing his career, from his formative years in Rome, at the Medici Academy founded by Cosimo III de’ Medici, to those during which – having returned to Florence – he worked as grand ducal sculptor, court architect, and director of the Medici Manufactures.

Through a careful selection of sculptures, drawings, and artifacts, the exhibition curated by Riccardo Spinelli pays tribute to Foggini’s inexhaustible ability to invent and reinvent styles and techniques and highlights how significant his role was in shaping the figurative language of the late-Medicean era.

The Fondazione Museo Ginori contributes to the exhibition with the loan of precious wax models acquired by Marquis Ginori “for use by the factory” and sculptures made in the eighteenth century by the Manifattura di Doccia translating Giovan Battista Foggini’s inventive compositions into porcelain.
