Villa Necchi Campiglio, Via Mozart 14, Milan
Until February 18, 2024, the dining room of Villa Necchi Campiglio – now a property of the FAI - Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano – returns to its original function the magnificent Centrotavola per il Ministero degli Esteri by Gio Ponti, coming from the Museo Ginori.
This large sculptural composition centered on the allegorical figure of Italy resting on a shell was commissioned to Richard Ginori by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the aim of decorating the tables of diplomatic offices on occasions of the most important receptions.
In the installation curated by Oliva Rucellai (Museo Ginori) with Aurora Totaro (FAI), the masterpiece - designed by Ponti and made at Doccia between 1927 and 1929 -beautifully dialogues with the stucco decorations designed by Piero Portaluppi on the dining room ceiling and with the two large consoles made for the same room by Tomaso Buzzi, who collaborated with Ponti in designing the centerpiece.
To accompany visitors in discovering the work, the FAI has organized a program of dedicated guided tours.
