To scholars and collectors from around the world, the two plaster casts from the Museo Ginori will tell a little-known but absolutely fascinating chapter of the long history of the Manifattura di Doccia, featuring the <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine/scultura-modelli">“collecting for factory use”</a> of Marquis Carlo Ginori and his son Lorenzo.
Both compositions, almost contemporaneous, depict the first of the Twelve Labors of Hercules. <a href="https://museoginori.org/collezioni/ercole-e-il-leone-di-nemea">One</a> has recently been attributed to Pietro Tacca (1577-1640), pupil and heir of the Florentine workshop of Giambologna, while the other is an original design by the Lombard Stefano Maderno (1576-1636), who was mainly active in Rome.

The two works were recently restored thanks to a fundraising campaign promoted by the Associazione Amici di Doccia, which in 2019 auctioned at Sotheby’s a collection of porcelain jewelry made by students of the LAO goldsmith arts school using scraps provided by Ginori 1735. &nbsp;&nbsp;
While awaiting the reopening of the Museo Ginori, currently undergoing renovation, the BIAF offers the opportunity to admire in all their beauty two significant examples of the extraordinary sculptural heritage of the Manifattura Ginori, whose conservation the Amici di Doccia have devoted numerous interventions to over the years.
Authorized by the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Tuscany, the restoration was carried out &nbsp;by Gabriella Tonini and Louis Pierelli under the direction of curator Giulia Basilissi. The diagnostic analyses commissioned by the Fondazione Ginori to AdArte snc finally provided valuable information on the technique and dating of the Maderno group.

Thursday, January 25 at 7 pm, on the occasion of the exhibition "Il Trionfo da tavola di Gio Ponti a Villa Necchi Campiglio," FAI - Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano and the Associazione Amici di Doccia dedicate a special evening to the Museo Ginori, inspired by the cookbook Il Quattrova illustrato, with drawings by Tomaso Buzzi and Gio Ponti. The proceeds will be donated to the restoration of a sculpture at the Museo Ginori.

Thursday, January 18, in the Orangerie of the Museo Poldi Pezzoli, Oliva Rucellai (chief curator of the Museo Ginori) and Marco Sammicheli (director of the Museo del Design Italiano Triennale Milano) will present the catalog &ldquo;Gio Ponti and the collection of the Museo Richard-Ginori della Manifattura di Doccia.&rdquo;
The event, organized by the association Amici Museo Poldi Pezzoli Milano in collaboration with the association Amici di Doccia, is reserved for the Friends of the Museo Poldi Pezzoli.
The proceeds from the sale of the volume will be used to restore a ice pail by Gio Ponti that is part of the collections of the Museo Ginori.

Discovering Gio Ponti with the Museo Ginori

The Museo Ginori is still closed, but it already has many stories to tell. To read and listen to them, its first website is online, making the very rich artistic and documentary heritage of the collections accessible to everyone.

On the pages dedicated to the <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine/c/highlights">Collections</a>, the site presents the most significant works of the museum, with extensive critical notes written by curators Oliva Rucellai and Rita Balleri, in collaboration with Daniele Lauri. Alongside the famous <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine/ceramiche-per-la-tavola">table ceramics</a>, appear <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine/sculture">porcelain sculptures</a>; <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine/scultura-modelli">models</a> in wax, plaster, and sulfur; <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine/l-utile">useful objects</a> such as plaques for street numbers and insulators for electrical networks; <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine/disegni">drawings</a> and prototypes that testify to production and research methods; <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine/maioliche-artistiche">artistically decorated maiolica</a> and masterpieces of <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine/il-liberty">Liberty style</a>.
In the <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine">Magazine</a>, the narrative becomes transversal, with editorial-style articles that tell of <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine/curiosita-botaniche-nei-decori-settecenteschi-della-manifattura-di-doccia">floral decorations</a> born from Carlo Ginori&rsquo;s passion for exotic plants, cultivated in a large greenhouse near the manufactory; of experiments close to utopia to grow <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine/porcellana-coralli-e-altri-esperimenti">corals</a> on porcelain pieces placed in the sea off the Ginori settlement of Cecina; of a <a href="https://museoginori.org/magazine/un-comopany-profile-ante-litteram-per-il-paese-dei-barbagianni">company profile</a> ante litteram written by Carlo Lorenzini (the author - under the pseudonym Collodi - of the famous fairy tale "Pinocchio") when his brother Paolo was managing the Ginori factory.
In the <a href="https://museoginori.org/museo/chi-siamo/mission">podcast</a> by Tomaso Montanari, the mission and identity of the museum are also told through the words of don Lorenzo Milani, who was particularly close to Ginori during the critical postwar years, when &mdash; in order to avoid mass layoffs &mdash; a large group of workers from the manufactory undertook a memorable bicycle journey from Sesto Fiorentino to Milan.
&ldquo;The most beautiful thing about this site,&rdquo; says Consuelo de Gara, head of communication at Museo Ginori, &ldquo;is that it manages, and will manage even more in the future, to tell everyone countless stories. Stories of art, craftsmanship, collecting, taste, whimsical and extravagant patronage, successful attempts and failures, work created and lost, talent and passion. Stories of people who learned a craft in the factory, built supportive communities long ahead of their time, and enabled Ginori to survive and to be the oldest Italian ceramic manufactory still active and its museum (one of the first corporate museums in Europe, now part of the Italian State heritage) to still have a voice today.&rdquo;

Designed and developed by the Florentine digital agency <a href="https://www.cantierecreativo.net">Cantiere Creativo</a>, the site is built using a technology based on Dato CMS, an Italian product already successfully tested by the Uffizi and the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Transformation.
Open, inclusive, and accessible, museoginori.org pays special attention to the needs of visually impaired and hearing impaired users, who can access all content thanks to compatibility with dedicated readers and the possibility to navigate entirely using the keyboard. The graphic layout has also been designed to ensure proper contrasts and readable fonts for everyone. Thanks to this design and development work, the site is classified as level AA according to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines WCAG 2.
Among the other technological advantages of museoginori.org are its speed (the site loads content in less than a second, ensuring a wait-free browsing experience), scalability (it can handle unexpected traffic spikes without going offline or slowing down loading times), and omnichannel capability (the content is designed to be used across multiple channels and devices, such as apps or virtual reality experiences).
Although it is a foundation governed by private law, with this site Fondazione Ginori has chosen to invest in creating a solution that fully complies with the standards required to public administrations by the Digital Administration Code and to make freely available the technological and design solutions it commissioned and owns the rights to, so they can be reused also by other public entities.
The graphics for the site were created in collaboration with <a href="https://muttnik.it">Muttnik</a>, the Florentine graphic studio that also developed the visual identity of Museo Ginori.

Friday, February 10, the Aula Magna of the SAGAS Department - History, Archaeology, Geography, Art and Performance of the University of Florence will host an afternoon of study dedicated to students and researchers. The meeting aims to capture and share some of the many insights offered by the exhibition "Arti in dialogo. Echi tardo barocchi nelle sculture del Museo Ginori" and to propose new analytical tools to refine the ability to critically approach the work of art. The session will be moderated by Prof. Cristiano Giometti (University of Florence). The conclusions will be entrusted to Prof. Tomaso Montanari (Fondazione Ginori).
